30 Days of goodness: Day 11

I was doing some painting this evening and I had my reading glasses on. This is paint by number (no fancy free styling!!) but the spaces and numbers are very small. Often when wearing my reading glasses I forget that I have them on, and when I try to do something else everything is blurry until I remember, oh yeah, these are only for reading! This happened tonight as I was painting, the realization that I was trying to do something else and everything was blurry yet it took me a minute to figure it out. And this thought went through my mind – it’s funny how we accept things being less than they could be. I don’t know if you needed to hear this. I must have. How often do I accept the lesser version of something, settling for less than what life could be. Maybe you’re doing the same in some area of your life. Don’t be afraid to look at it. All of life doesn’t have to be blurry and difficult. Don’t accept less than what life could be.

This made me think of perspective and how it’s everything. And so, I decided this time to simply post pictures of things that make me happy. With no explanation. A picture is worth a thousand words. And perspective is what makes things what they are. Without further ado…

Remember, You are loved and you matter!!!!

30 Days of goodness: Day 10

I made it to day 10! This in itself is something to celebrate. There’s many days when I feel like this was a stupid goal and I should just let it go. Gratefully, my conscience won’t let me. So, here we are with another day of goodness. I hope you’re finding good things in your life too.

On the home front

My daughter and I did the craziest workout today. I was sweating from places that I didn’t know existed. I was absolutely positively sure that I would pass out or vomit. It was that hard. The good news is, I’m not sore!! That means I getting fit! Woohoo!

We had some family time over individually made pizzas. Yay Boboli for making personal pizzas and yay for Costco for carrying them!

I had the good sense to buy chocolate peanut butter pretzels and they make a great snack in bed. Don’t judge, I’m working out.

I finished reading/listening to Jane Eyre and took my test on it. Whew, glad to have accomplished that.

Some Dad Jokes

Today, my son asked “Can I have a book mark?” and I burst into tears. 11 years old and he still doesn’t know my name is Brian.

I bought some shoes from a drug dealer. I don’t know what he laced them with, but I was tripping all day!

If a child refuses to sleep during nap time, are they guilty of resisting a rest?

I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon. I’ll let you know

Inspiration for the day – this old but sweet song. I’m on your side…You are loved and you matter!!

30 Days of goodness: Day 9

I’m going to cut to the chase because I don’t have anything witty or wise to say…

On the home front

I’m keeping very busy with school work and catching up on the dozens of things I’ve been meaning to get to forever!

My kids finally have school work being assigned so they can do something other than lord knows they’ve been doing.

Finding the audio book Jane Eyre has freed me up to do chores while doing homework. It’s the best!

My adult paint by number is coming along swimmingly. It’s going to be so cool!

In the news

Today I’m letting John Krasinski give the good news, because, who doesn’t love John Kraskinski?! If you have the time, watch the whole thing. It’s totally worth it!

The Office’s John Krasinski launched a YouTube channel dedicated to good news

Some inspiration

The useless days will add up to something. The shitty waitressing jobs. The hours writing in your journal. The long, meandering walks. The days reading poetry and story collections and novels and dead people’s diaries and wondering about sex and God and whether you should shave your under arms or not. These things are your becoming.

30 Days of goodness: Day 8

Here we are again. I’m really hoping that this isn’t starting to read like a bad Facebook feed…drivel about what I did and what I ate. The world has become much smaller for all of us, so this is all I have to offer for now. Just want you to know, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing…I’m sending out love and good thoughts to you right now! You are loved and you matter!

On the home front

We finished watching the Twilight saga. So many nights of making fun of bad acting and a horrible story line!

I’m supposed to be reading Jane Eyre for one of my classes. I’m way behind but I discovered it on audio and was able to do choirs and paint while doing homework! Double duty!

I got to see my parents today…from a distance, of course. I dropped something off at their house and got to visit for a few minutes on their doorstep. I miss them something terrible and it was so nice to at least see their faces in the flesh.

I have to comment on this one because it’s so cute. A guy saw a girl dancing on a rooftop across from his and sent his drone over to her with his phone number. They had a nice dinner…on their opposing rooftops and he shouted to her that she looked beautiful. So sweet! Life carries on!

30 Days of goodness: Day 7

I’m still here and pushing through, trying to write even when I don’t feel like it. There is always something good, something to be grateful for.

On the home front

We had a Zoom chat with the entire family and it was wonderful and funny and heartwarming. I couldn’t have a better family. I’m so eternally grateful for them.

I got to wander around Costco today which made me feel more human somehow.

My cat only knows that we’re home more than ever before. It helps to have an innocent creature in the midst of everything.

A funny story: the other night I made tacos. We were out of sour cream so I grabbed some plain yogurt and put a generous dob on my taco. Halfway through I started to worry that the salsa had gone bad. I turned the yogurt to look at it. Vanilla. I don’t recommend switching out sour cream with vanilla yogurt. At least not on tacos.

My paint by number for adults came in the mail and it’s keeping my mind  occupied.

Inspiration for the day

We consider bibles and religions divine-

I do not say they are not divine,

I say they have all grown out of you, and may grow out of you still,

It is not they who give the life, it is you who give the life,

Leaves are no more shed from the trees, or trees from the earth, than they are shed out of you.

Walt Whitman

30 Days of Goodness: Day 6

I found out today that a friend and old co-worker just lost her father to Covid-19. It’s such shocking and sad news. My heart breaks for her. I can’t even imagine. In light of this news, and in honor of those of you who have also lost a loved one, I just wanted to leave some uplifting words this time. You are loved. You matter. My heart breaks with those of you who are suffering.

“The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers & cities; but to know someone who thinks & feels with us, & who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden.”
― Goethe

“There is no perfection, only beautiful versions of brokenness.”
― Shannon L. Alder

“I promise you that the same stuff galaxies are made of, you are. The same energy that swings planets around stars makes electrons dance in your heart. It is in you, outside you, you are it. It is beautiful. Trust in this. And you your life will be grand.”
― Kamal Ravikant

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance”

30 Days of goodness: Day 5

Today was a rough day in the Angelo house. My youngest is struggling with depression and the isolation is just intensifying her feelings. I feel useless in these times, knowing there’s little I can do to help. We press on. We continue to love and take care of each other the best we can. And continue to look for goodness.

On the home front

We’re about to start a Twilight marathon, which is always good for a laugh.

I had the foresight to buy chocolate ice cream and wine.

A trip to the grocery store was made safer by my friend who gave us some gloves, thank you Mindy!

The shirt I ordered finally came. A good reminder that being fragile doesn’t mean that you are weak!

Inspiration for the day

Troubled? Then stay with me, for I’m not.

A thousand naked amorous ones dwell in ancient caves

beneath my eyelids.

Here’s a pick,

My whole body is an emerald that begs,

“Take me”.

Write all that worries you on a piece of parchment;

offer it to God.

Even from the distance of a millennium

I can lean the flame in my heart

into your life

and turn all that frightens you

into holy
